France's ministry of Economy confirmed on November 25 that it will formally levy a digital services tax on large multinational Internet companies from December 2020. Several US digital giants, including Amazon and Facebook, have received notices to pay the tax for the first time, sources said. In July, the US government was reported to have said it would slap a 25 per cent tariff on $1.3bn worth of French goods, including cosmetics and handbags, in response to France's earlier announcement of a "digital tax". U.S. President Donald Trump has previously raised tariffs on French wine imports to 25 percent.
