新华网里约热内卢12月30日电(记者刘建超)巴西经济智库负责人30日表示,12月巴西经济不确定性有所缓解,但仍高于2月新冠肺炎疫情爆发前的水平。
RIO DE JANEIRO, Dec. 30 (Xinhua) -- Uncertainty about the Brazilian economy eased in December, but still above the level in February before the COVID-19 outbreak, said a leading economic think tank on Wednesday.
The Getulio Vargas Foundation (FGV) said that its Economic Uncertainty Indicator fell 3.5 points to 142.3 this month from November, but is still 27.2 points above the level in February.
"After the increase of the previous month, the indicator that measures Brazilian uncertainty fell again in December, influenced by the start of vaccination in several countries and rise in expectations, although still modest, about the possibility of economic and social recovery in the coming months," the FGV said in a report.
"The year 2020 ends at a level higher than 140 points, a level that is still quite unfavorable, which reflects the uncertainty surrounding a decline in health in Brazil and the problematic vaccination scenario in the country," the think tank said.
There are no short-term signs that indicate uncertainty will return to more satisfactory levels, "due to the enormous challenges that Brazil still needs to face in a variety of issues," it said.
The financial market estimates Brazil's economy will contract 4.4 percent this year, while the government expects a contraction of 4.5 percent due to the impact of the pandemic.
